About ATP program at San Jose State University ??

Hi everyone,

I am a new guy login here. Is there anyone participating the ATP ( Intensive English
program ) program at San Jose State University in the past ? How was your experience
with that program ? My goal are to prepare for TOEFL preparation and  improve English more.

That's great. I think your are the right person to answer my question.
1) What do you learn from this ATP program ? I want to know what
    activities you usually do in the class to learn English.
2) Do you think their method is very helpful for TOEFL testing ?
3) How many students does one class have ?
4) Besides the fee listed on web site, is there another cost I need to
    prepare for this ATP program.
5) Do they teach how to get the good score in TOEFL testing ?

That's what I can think about right now. Will consult with you if I have
another questions.

Your suggestion is valuable and is actually one of my options. I have
worked in San Jose for almost 2 years. Before coming here, I have
6-year working experience. I plan to get a master degree at SCU ( MBA or EMGT ). Because TOEFL is required, I am thinking about what's the efficieny way to get higher TOEFL score for me before this fall. Anyway, the story you sent to me is a good reference. In Taiwan, the cose is indeed cheaper.  ^_^

我想你的英文已經不錯了
在SAL可能會已經學不到東西了
而且華人太多~SJ並不適合學語文....

1.我待了兩個season,都是在最初級的F等級,F都在學簡單的寫作文法,SAL 主要分四個等級F,D,E,G (低~高)
2.這個問題在begin level是完全感覺不到有幫助的= =....
  high level的話有一堂是練TOFEL的考題, 選修課也有TOFEL Speaking的課
3.一班人數從7到20,通常都是1X個
4.問的好~想必很有經驗了XD
   a.你要準備買學生保險(半年約5XX), 你說你有工作在這邊,有工作保險的話應該可以不用買這個
   b.書錢(新書全部一定破1XX) (可以找舊生買2手比較便宜)
   頂多就這樣子~
5.這個沒辦法回答你....因為我還在begin level混 = =

台灣的托福補習班+1

Your English skill is sufficient enough to carry a normal conversation. All you need to do is to tighten your grammar a little bit. I don’t think you need to waste your money and time to go thought the language program here. I think you should finish your exam in Taiwan and get that over with and then apply to the master program that you want in SCU. I would probably save you a lot of time as well.

我之前上過一期的SAL
我那時是在G
課程有很多類型 像是Written, Grammar, Oral, CERV 和一些選修課之類的
不過我那時是一半Open Univ學分一半SAL學分
所以不是所有的課都有上
我只上了Grammar和一個Toefl speaking

說實在的
我覺得兩堂課都很空虛 ...
老師上課上得不錯
不過我想以你的英文程度應該會覺得很無聊
可能是因為文法本來就是很基本的東西
也許去上Oral會比較有幫助
(以上完全個人感想)

不過等級G班上人都很少
我那時文法班只有7個人
而且加我只有兩個台灣人 剩下都是外國人
所以比較不用擔心會一直講中文

另外TOEFL Speaking因為班上人很多
(好像是等級E以上都可以上 我那時有20人左右)
我覺得就上得很...........
買本課本自己念都比較有效率

我不確定現在換iBT之後台灣補習班還有沒有那麼有用
但至少之前我在台灣補托福的經驗是完全考試取向
也許補完英文程度實質沒進步多少
但考試分數會好很多 (如果有認真補習的話)
所以我也建議在台灣補
錢省很多 效果也好很多
(以你的重心在TOEFL的前提下)

It looks ATP program would not fit my demand per your opinion. My goal
is to get higher TOEFL score. I won't take that program. Your opinion save
my time and money. Appreciate! ^_^

可以去那裡的佈告欄貼資訊

要考TOEFL的學生常常約在圖書館一起討論~
討論用的書也可以請他們幫忙找二手的~
