2007 Fall 開學前的一些問題

大家好
本人打算前往SJSU就讀2007 Fall的一年MBA課程
之前請教過幾位朋友 聽說是直接註冊就好
但因為目前在MY SJSU上都沒有看到相關的Fall 開學訊息
所以上來請教大家的經驗
或是這裡有沒有也在MBA就讀的學長姐
請幫幫忙 謝謝^^

1.開學前的Oretation大約都在何時?應該要去參加嗎?

2.住宿的話 個人傾向外面租屋 如果是八月二十左右開學的話 通常要多久前開始找?
   找到後要等 還是過一兩週就能搬入?

3.由於一年制的MBA不在campus內,是在180 Rose Orchard Way, san jose ca
   想請問對san jose熟悉的朋友,如果我打算住在mountain view或是cupertino
   這個地方是否一定要有車才能去上課,有其他交通運輸工具嗎?

4.選課之前是否都要跟學校的顧問討論,還是直接上網勾一勾就好了?

5.B-school要考WST嗎?這個是自己要報名還是有規定要選某堂課來複習?

以上 因為我真的對SJSU一點概念也沒有
又即將要出發了
所以請大家如果有類似經驗的

According to the academic calendar 8/21~22 is the orientation. However, this is for regular student.
If you are internation student, please check http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/ipss/. You can contact them for any question you might have. Thats if you are international student.

2.住宿的話 個人傾向外面租屋 如果是八月二十左右開學的話 通常要多久前開始找?
   找到後要等 還是過一兩週就能搬入?

You can start searching whenever you want if you plan to rent. You can check this link http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/roo/ for information. In your case, you might want to start looking at least a month ahead if you don't have credit history in the U.S.

As a SJSU register student, you can ride any VTA buses/light-rail for free with your student ID. Check this link for more info http://as.sjsu.edu/asts/

4.選課之前是否都要跟學校的顧問討論,還是直接上網勾一勾就好了?

It's always advised for new student to consult with department advisor before registering for class. Howvere, you can go ahead register for whichever class you want if there is no hold or restriction on your account. If you are international student, the international student office will most likely place an hold on your account until insurance and any visa related matters are cleared.

5.B-school要考WST嗎?這個是自己要報名還是有規定要選某堂課來複習?
I am not sure if your department required WST. But in general, all students are required to pass WST before eligiable to apply for graduation. You can take WST whenever you feel you are ready. Check this link for more info https://testing.sjsu.edu/twst.html

For commuting to the RO Campus, you can take light rail.

From Downtown Mountain view, you can take Light Rail.
Or from Cupertino, you will either take Bus to San Jose, then take light rail.
Or Take Bus 26 (alone Wolf Rd) to the light Rail station.

Both ways will take a long time on commute... you should consider driving..

5.B-school要考WST嗎?這個是自己要報名還是有規定要選某堂課來複習?

我知道的是 Under 的話一定要過, 100W 和其他 Upper GE 要學生過這個考試。
研究生就不一定了, 最主要是看系所, 就我知道, engineering Department 最近就
廢掉了必須過 WST 的規定。

如有需要, WST 是要自己報考, https://testing.sjsu.edu/twst.html ( 點 TouchNet )
可以 online register。 WST 沒有規定要選某堂課來複習, 不過如果考兩次都沒過的話
就要拿課 LLD 99/ LLD 98 才可考第 3 次。 LLD 拿過後就可無限考。 相信我,考 4 5 次
沒過的大有人在!  要準備 WST 可以去學校的 BookStore 買一本叫
California State Univerisity Writing Proficiency Exams (現為三版, 約 US$17 )的書來啃。
如果別人有二版的, 也可以, 沒差多少(三版出來馬扁錢的就是了 )
