Director of Labs

Position Summary:

Do you like to be the part of the team building the most trafficked Internet destination?

Yahoo! Global R&D Center in Beijing is fully owned and operated by United States based Yahoo! Inc.  We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist with strong background in solving large-scale optimization problems to drive the projects at the R&D Center and help improve the relevance and revenue of our global contextual and search advertising products.  The candidate will work in close collaboration with engineers and scientists in US and other countries to create fast and scalable solutions in online advertising.

Key Responsibilities

§  Apply probabilistic, machine learning and data mining techniques to build models to improve relevance, revenue, and user experience

§  Deep dive into the data to understand and apply patterns, while maintaining a sense of the big picture

§  Work closely with colleagues on the engineering team to put your research results into action

§  Provide thought leadership to guide the direction of Yahoo! R&D Center

§  Partner with remote teams in U.S. and other global offices to design and deliver quality products for global markets

§  Ability to build world-class team by recruiting top talents and commitment to grow team in capability, productivity and scale.

Minimum Requirements

§  Strong background in statistical modeling, machine learning and data mining

§  Experience in data driven methods in computational linguistics, information retrieval, speech recognition, machine translation, image processing or other related fields

§  Fluency in Python, Perl, or another scripting language is a plus

§  Proficient in UNIX/Linux tools and utilities

§  Fluent oral English communication

§  Precise written communication in Chinese and English

§  An established profile with a strong presence/influence in the local academic community or tech community is preferred

§  Previous practice of design and development frameworks / methodologies (such as Agile, Scrum or similar) is preferred

Preferred Job Qualifications

§  Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent

§  Practical experience in C++, C, and/or Java

§  Good understanding of online advertising technology

§  Good understanding of Grid computing, Hadoop, advanced server clustering and distributed programming
